It was great to meet all of you and hear about your interests. By now you should have received an invite to join the blog. Please open a Word document on your computer and write a short introduction to yourself -- tell us your major or field, career plans and anything else you'd like to share. Then cut and paste from your document into the area on the comments page (click on "comments" just on the the lower right of this prompt) to post onto the blog. You don't have to write about any of our class activities this week -- right now we are just getting used to using the blog.
Your homework this week is to browse through the textbook, read the Intro and first section of Chapter One. See you Wednesday!

Hello everyone! My name is Kristie. I am an intended English major but I also plan to minor in Youth and Child Psychology and Counselling. However, my ultimate goal is to earn my teaching certificate at the secondary level. I would ultimately like to become a high school English teacher so that I can share my passion for reading and written expression with my students and to help young adults develop their abilities as writers as I feel that too many youth today have lost a passion for reading and writing amidst the conveniences of the modern world.
Hey class. My name is Shawn and im starting my 3rd year at SFU. Im still deciding whether I want to go into economics or business. I'm not planning on going into teaching after school here but this class sounded like something different and I think it will be a nice break from the calculus and statistics classes that I am used to.
Hi everyone! My name is Jessica and I’m in my 2nd semester at SFU. I am planning to do a Bach’s degree in General Studies with a minor in Education. I have wanted to become an elementary school teacher ever since I was in Grade 2. I love the idea of being able to teach children and having them want to learn new things. The course also seemed a bit different from other education courses and this also caught my interest.
Hey Everyone! I am Heather. This is my first year, second semester at SFU. I have just recently graduated from highschool and am in the Explorations program at SFU Surrey. After this semester, I intend on doing a Bachelor in General Studies. In my grade 12 year in highschool, I became interested in teaching. This is partly influenced by my current job, which is a children instructor at my local recreation centre. I am really excited for this class and feel that it would help in my career, whether or not I decide to pursue a major in elementary education or not. I hope to make some new friends in this class
Hi everyone,
My name is Mike, and I come to you by way of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I am a fourth year student at SFU. I major in History, primarily Canadian history, as well as education. I hope to be in the PDP program by next January. While in the PDP program I hope to complete a second degree in physical education. Outside of the classroom I am heavily involved in lacrosse. I play on the SFU lacrosse team which keeps me very busy with travel and training. In addition to playing, I do a lot of coaching in the Burnaby area. Coaching has provided me with a great opportunity to not only travel, but to learn a lot about how to deal with high school aged children. I’m hoping that the variety of experiences I have will bring a unique way of viewing issues discussed in class. I look forward to working with all of you.
Hi, everyone! My name is Maria, and this is my fifth year at SFU. I'm currently completing my Bachelor's degree with a major in English, and (like many of you, it seems) I hope to become a teacher one day. For the past two summers, I've worked with children, teaching an arts-and-crafts program at the art gallery in my hometown, and that experience has only strengthened my desire to enter the teaching field. Since I'm interested in literature as well as education, it sounds like this class will be a great addition to the courses I've taken so far.
Hi everyone! My name is Cheyenne, and I'm currently in my very last semester at SFU (woo!). I started taking Education courses last semester, and I really enjoyed them, so I continued to take more this semester. Although my major is in Political Science, I plan to pursue a Master of Architecture next Fall. Ultimately, I'd like to combine these two fields and become a university professor and conduct research in the area of urban planning, so I think this course would be very helpful in my prospective career.
Hi My name is Janet. I went to Cap University and Emily Carr before I came to SFU. This is my 2yr and I am planning to get into PDP in the future. I work as a hairstylist and also teach apprentices. During teaching I realized everyone learns in different ways. I would like to be a 'good teacher' who can actually help them and understand in every way. Through this course, I hope I can see through my students like way we see each character through the short stories.
Hello Amanda here! I am hoping to be an elementary school teacher and wanted to be teacher since kindergarten. I have 2 kids who are 11 and 9, they have taught me a lot about children in general and how different each one can be even when they are related. I have worked as a teacher's aide for the past 6 years at a private school for children with learning disablities the students at work have taught me diversity of learning styles and how these styles effect behaviour and learning outcomes. I love learning new ways of doing something and having the opportunity to meet new people and explore new possibilities. I look forward to getting to know you all better! :)
